Shelly Beach Golf Club – Additional Local Rules
(To be read in conjunction with the JNJG & GNSW Local Rules Hard Card and the Rules of Golf as adopted by the R&A)
Preferred Lies (Model Loal Rule E-3)
- When a player’s ball lies in a part of the General Area (i.e. through the green), the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing from this relief area:
- Reference point: Spot of the original ball.
- Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 30cm from the reference point, but within these limits:
- Limits on Location of Relief AREA:
- Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and
- Must be in the general area.
- In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rule 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.
Out of Bounds
- Beyond the inside points of any fence post or line of white stakes with black tops defining the boundary of the course. Note - you do not get free relief from boundary fences
- Beyond the course side edge of gutters painted black and white defining the boundary of the course
- Beyond the course side edge of the Clubs carpark, Club House,Shelly Beach Road and Club access roads
- A ball which crosses a line of boundary markers along Shelly Beach Road or an access road is out of bounds even if it comes to rest on another part of the course
Penalty Areas
- A penalty area is any area identified by red stakes or red dots & lines
Ground Under Repair and Protected Gardens
- Areas circled by white paint.
- Areas defined by G.U.R signage and / or white stakes
- Play is PROHIBITED from areas marked as Compulsory G.U.R
- Play is PROHIBITED from Environmentally Sensitive and Protected Garden Areas, defined by white stakes with green tops
Immovable Obstructions
- Artificially surfaced and defined paths including adjacent areas where artificial material has been spread or applied
- Large rocks placed on the course along either side of Shelly Beach Road
Stakes Trees and Shrubs
- If a tree or shrub that is stakes and / or tagged with a white disk and / or protected by tree guards, interferes with a player's stance or the area of their intended swing, the ball MUST be lifted, without penalty and dropped nearest point of relief and within one club length, no nearer the hole
Integral Parts of the Course
- All roads and paths which are not defined and / or artificially surfaced
- Protective Screens near the boundary fences behind the 10th green and on the left hand side of the 12th hole
- Wires, Cables, wrapping and other objects that are closely attached to trees and other permanent objects
- Artificial retaining walls and / or pillings when located within penalty areas
- Power Lines and Cables
UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, THE PENALTY FOR BREACH OF A LOCAL RULE IS THE GENERAL PENALTY:

Shelly Beach Golf Club – Tournament Information
Scorecard Return and Tournament Office
- A player’s scorecard is deemed officially returned to the Tournament Committee when the player has left the tournament office. Once the player has left the tournament office, no changes may be made to the scorecard.
- Players MUST move straight from the 18th green to the tournament office to complete and sign their scorecards.

- In the case of a player being unable to gain assistance from one of the numbers above, the player may proceed in accordance with the procedure outlined in Rule 20.1c(3) of the Rules of Golf and nominate to play a second ball. The player must report the facts of the situation to the Committee before returning the scorecard, even if the player scores the same with both balls.
Maximum Score Format of Play (Rules of Golf Rule 21.2)
- Maximum Score is a form of stroke play where a player’s score for a hole is capped a maximum number of strokes set by the committee.
- At JNJG Junior Masters Events, the maximum score for any hole is 10 strokes.
Parents, Spectators and Bag Pusher Guidelines
- There are no caddies or bag pushers allowed at any JNJG Tour Event.
- Anyone following a player in the tournament is doing so as a spectator only.
Course Information
- Tee Markers
- White JNJG Tee Markers – all BOYS divisions
- Red JNJG Tee Markers – all GIRLS divisions
Distance Markers
100m, 150m and 200m to the centre of the green
Make sure you keep up with the group in front, carry and use a sand bucket to replace divots, and fix all pitch marks on the greens. Let’s leave the course in the same condition as when we arrived!!
